Breakfast on the run

Breakfast on the run

I took a detour to one of my favourite bird locations in town, the marina. Just as I drove onto the jetty, I saw one of our local Bald Eagles diving for ducks. I thought I had missed the action because most of the ducks were making a hasty departure en masse but I could see that the eagle had its sights on something just past the breakwater. I got my camera ready but waited in the car about 200 metres away to see if it would catch anything. The moment I noticed the eagle didn't fly up again, I quickly got out of the car, poised to see if it would come towards me with its catch. As luck would have it, that is exactly what it did, carrying an unfortunate coot in its talons and heading for one of the trees behind me.
